Vanessa Newman

Resista Exercise Coach

I’m Vanessa, but most people call me Ness.

I have 4 beautiful young adult children, one beautiful grandson, and a very barky dog. I live in St Leonards-on-Sea with my boyfriend, where I also do my workouts.

I have a GCSE in dance and a level 2 Gym Instructor qualification. Level 3 in 2023.

I love being fit and eating healthily, helping others improve their fitness, and eating habits, to feel better about themselves and life.

My love of moving my body started at a very young age when I began learning ballet. I then studied contemporary dance at secondary school.

When I left school I trained as a window dresser in London and eventually worked my way up as the main window dresser at Harvey Nicols. During this time I danced at Pineapple Dance Studios on my days off. My love for dancing continued for a few years. I regularly took part in Lindy Hop, Jiving & Balboa.

Then came the grown-up bit, I got married and started a family. Three babies in less than 3 years, then came a 4th. I just didn’t have the time or the energy for regular exercise!

Four years after my fourth child I went to University and graduated with a 2:1 BA Hons in history of fashion.

When the kids were a bit older I started to go to the gym and took up yoga.

I fell in love with step aerobic classes and eventually had a go at pole fitness and aerial hoop skills too.

The beauty of learning pole and aerial was that my body, particularly my core, became stronger than I ever imagined!

Before I ever tried pole, I honestly thought I’d not get off the ground! Within a year, I mastered the ‘drop back’.

I even performed aerial hoops at a few events and I was very proud of how far I’d come. But after a year I was forced to give these up due to a very painful hip.

After a big change in my life, a relocation and restart I joined a gym again, knowing I needed to start weight bearing to build bone density. I got hooked, but then came Covid. I started online pre-recorded workouts every day during lockdown.

I signed up with Liv to do a 30-day plan & her live workout classes. When lockdown was over Liv organised a photo shoot for us all. The next thing I knew, I was standing in a photographic studio with a group of AMAZING women who were also on Liv’s plans. That was after months of training harder than I’d ever trained before and eaten to a strict plan to get the results I wanted.

I never in my wildest dreams imagined I could look so good. And I don’t say that lightly either. The expertise Liv has, plus my dedication to training, (plus the spray tan and sparkly bikini) paid off.

All thanks to Livia for her consistency, her knowledge, her caring and generous nature and her patience.

I decided to turn my rediscovered passion for fitness into a new career, and now I’m a qualified gym instructor too. Back to my roots!! Back to fitness! It’s never too late to start.
